CHARLES TOWN – Caleia Lasheia Rideoutt of Kearneysville was charged two weeks ago with three counts of sexual abuse by a parent, guardian or custodian late last month for allegedly engaging in sexual contact with a 5-year-old she was babysitting. If convicted, she faces a sentence of up to 20 years on each count.
The Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s office has recused itself from the case, saying in court documents that it is “necessary to avoid the appearance of impropriety.” It notes that Rideoutt has worked part time and as an intern for the prosecutor’s office, and that her mother is a longtime employee.
All three of Jefferson County’s magistrates have likewise recused themselves from the case, saying that they “work with (Rideoutt’s mother) on a regular basis.”
Rideoutt has been released on a $10,000 bond. She is being represented by Byron Craig Manford.
