Dave Strider holds a photograph of his father, the late Rev. Robert E.L. Strider. In early 1960 when John F. Kennedy was campaigning for the Democratic nomination, he met with the retired Episcopal bishop of the West Virginia diocese at the Striders’ Rose Hill farm in Leetown. Strider gave JFK his endorsement and Kennedy prevailed in the state’s May primary and the fall general election. Friday marked the 50th anniversary of Kennedy’s death.
