MYRTLE BEACH — Jefferson completed a successful week of softball in the Grand Strand tournament held over the local school’s spring break. The Lady Cougars were able to win their Blue Bracket in Myrtle Beach with a 4-0 win over Riverside (W.Va.) in the title game.
Alexandra Witt posted a two-hit shutout while fanning seven of the Warriors. Witt also had three hits, including two doubles and a single. Lauren Lewis contributed a triple.
During the weeklong stay in the Myrtle Beach area, Jefferson had a record of 5-1. The Lady Cougars completed the week with an overall record of 9-3 in all games this season.
Competing against the Lady Cougars in Myrtle Beach were Riverside, Ashland (Ky.), Jeffersontown (Ky.), Timber Creek, and St. Mary Ryken (Md.).
The Lady Cougars defeated Ashland, 4-0, and came right back to post a 13-0 win over Jeffersontown.
On Monday, Jefferson defeated St. James, 10-0, in a mercy-rule game that lasted only three innings. Chelsea Shepherd had a home run and two hits. Casey Lyons had three hits while Brean Rotruck and Gabby Lovell each had two hits. Shelby McTighe was Jefferson’s winning pitcher. Jefferson improved to 10-3 and St. James remained winless at 0-5.
