Washington evens softball record

Even though Amber Curry drilled a home run and had two hits, Washington found homestanding Musselman too difficult to handle and dropped a 14-4 season-opening softball decision to the Lady Applemen.

Musselman was 2-0 with the victory.

Sabrina Shroades was Musselman’s winning pitcher, and Nikki Dusing had three doubles and four RBIs to pace the offense.

The game was abbreviated to three innings by the mercy rule.

The Patriots evened their record when they stopped visiting Martinsburg, 10-1, on Friday. Washington scored in all four innings of the game curtailed by the mercy rule.

Washington’s lead was 7-1 after two innings. The Patriots counted another two runs in the third and added a final run in the fourth.

Ashley Ferro, Christina Collins and Mikayla Willingham were some of the catalysts for Washington’s offense.

The Patriots evened their early-season record at 1-1.
