Scholarship available: Applications are being accepted for the 2013 Woman’s Club of Harpers Ferry Carrie Schilling College Scholarship. The scholarship is for $1,000 and is open to students at Washington or Jefferson high schools who plan a college major in the arts and humanities, environmental studies or public service fields. Applications must be postmarked by April 1.
Calling all poets: The Potomac Valley Audubon Society is asking local poets to submit poems that will be displayed as part of the April 6 Wildflower Festival at the Yankauer Nature Preserve north of Shepherdstown. Those who wish to submit poems should email them to email@example.com. Poems may also be dropped off at the Four Seasons Bookstore in Shepherdstown or mailed to Poetry Walk, c/o PVAS, PO Box 578, Shepherdstown 25443. The deadline for submissions is March 29. For women: Step-Up for Women trains women in skill trades and prepares them for jobs in building and highway construction and union apprenticeships for free. The spring training is from April 22 to June 14 and will take place at the James Rumsey Technical Institute in Martinsburg.
