Crowning glory

Today is Ash Wednesday, the start of Lent when many Christians give up sweets, television, Facebook or something else they cherish, but earlier this week, the Mardi Gras party attitude prevailed. Shepherdstown Sweet Shop Bakery employee Alex Stevens cradles a King Cake, decorated in the traditional Mardi Gras colors and featuring a plastic baby trinket. According to custom, the person who gets the slice with the trinket must provide the next King Cake or hold the next Mardi Gras party.
