Rumsey Radio Hour

The Rumsey Radio Hour – the Shepherdstown version of National Public Radio’s “Prairie Home Companion” – returns with a special one-hour benefit at 8 p.m. Friday at the Shepherdstown Opera House, with proceeds earmarked for the Shepherdstown Public Library.

A second show begins at 8 p.m. Saturday at Shepherd University’s Frank Center. Before the performance, anyone is welcome to attend the Roadkill Cafe Dinner at the Wellness Center on Shepherd campus. The meal costs $35 and starts at 6 p.m.

Civil War talk

Military historian James Rosebrock will be the guest speaker at tonight’s Harpers Ferry Civil War Roundtable. His free talk, “From West Point to Antietam,” begins at 8 p.m. at Camp Hill Methodist Church in Harpers Ferry. Rosebrock, a retired lieutenant colonel, is a lifelong student of military history and a National Park Service-certified battlefield guide at Antietam. Pets & Santa

Your cat or dog will look adorable posed with the Jolly Old Elf this weekend as the Animal Welfare Society of Jefferson County hosts its annual Pet Photos with Santa fundraiser from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Tractor Supply Co., 1040 Somerset Blvd. in Charles Town. Dogs must be on leashes, cats in cat carriers and all pets must have their vaccinations up to date. Each 5×7 pose costs $10, and photos Santa with children or families are another option. Old Opera House auction-dinner

Saturday’s the big night for the Old Opera House. The theater’s annual auction and dinner kicks off at the Clarion Hotel and Conference Center in Shepherdstown at 5:30 p.m., with dinner at 7 p.m.

Fine art, antiques, gift certificates, collectibles, furniture and more will be among the auction items. The fundraiser helps the OOH cover the cost of play royalties, costumes, stage production costs and the needs of maintaining the 1911 historic theater in downtown Charles Town. Holiday tea

Anyone’s welcome to join the Berkeley County Historical Society Saturday for its third-annual Holiday Tea from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Historic McFarland House, 409 S. Queen St. in Martinsburg.
