Monthly meeting: The monthly meeting of the Eastern Panhandle Conservation District starts at 7 tonight in the conference room of the USDA Service Center in Martinsburg.

 

Free seminar: The free lecture “History teaches us to hope, drawing inspiration from the Shenandoah Valley’s Civil War,” begins at 7 tonight at the Harry F. Byrd School of Business at Shenandoah University in Winchester, Va.

 

Book sale: The Hagerstown, Md., branch of the American Association of University Women holds its fall book sale from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the ARC of Washington County building at 820 Florida Ave. in Hagerstown. Emergency services: The monthly meeting of the Jefferson County Emergency Services Agency Board starts at 7 p.m. Thursday at the JCESA Operations Center at 419 Sixteenth Ave. in Ranson. Members of the public with questions may call JCESA at 304-728-3287.

 

Judge ceremony: The judges of the United States District Court fof the Northern District of West Virginia will conduct the formal investiture of new District Court Judge Gina M. Groh at 1 p.m. Friday at the Frank Center at Shepherd University. Members of the public are invited to attend. Security regulations require those who attend present an official photo identification. No guns or weapons of any kind are allowed.

 

Flea market: The Woman’s Club of Harpers Ferry will host a flea market Saturday and Sunday at 856 Washington St. in Harpers Ferry. The event is the club’s largest fundraiser of the year. Market hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.

 

Jefferson’s Rock: Potomac Valley Audubon Society invites all hikers for a short hike up to Jefferson’s Rock Saturday. Participants will meet at the Harpers Ferry train station at 9 a.m. Pre-registration is encouraged. Candidates’ forum: The Jefferson County NAACP will sponsor a candidates forum at the Clarion Hotel in Shepherdstown starting at 7 p.m. Tuesday. Candidates from the West Virginia House of Delegates and Senate have been invited to participate. Each candidate will be given three minutes to present his or her platform. The panel will be open for questions from the public.
