PRINCETON — After winning its only game in the District 6 Senior League tournament, the Charles Town/Ranson team took a bus ride to the state tournament in Princeton.
With its 1-0 record in hand, the Charles/Town Ranson defeated St. Albans, 11-10, in its first game in the state event. St. Albans had a 10-9 lead going to the bottom of the seventh. Charles Town/Ranson rallied for the two runs it needed to win when Marcus Smith scored on Cody Reynolds’ single and the game-deciding run scored on a subsequent infield error committed by St. Albans.
Charles Town/Ranson had a 7-5 lead after only two innings.
A Dustin Roberts grand slam homer shoved St. Albans back into the lead.
Jonas Myers would blank St. Albans in the last two innings to give Charles Town/Ranson its chance in the seventh.
In the semifinals, William Viands pitched a complete game as Charles Town/Ranson defeated Charleston Northeast, 9-2. Viands doled out four hits and fanned eight to keep Charles Town/Ranson undefeated in its two state tournament games.
Early on, Dylan MacIntosh had an RBI double. Viands’ double drove in a run. Charles Town/Ranson grabbed a comfortable lead in the fourth when Ross Carpenter, Smith, Viands, MacIntosh, and LaFollette, all scored runs.
Once-beaten Charleston Northeast was the opponent in the state title game where Charles Town/Ranson won, 11-1. Viands and MacIntosh both scored on sacrifice flies to give the Jefferson County team a 2-0 lead. Zach Hostler had a two-run single to ignite a long rally that wasn’t quelled until after Charles Town/Ranson had used three hits, a pair of walks, and four Charleston Northeast errors to break the game open. Dylan Impellizzeri scored twice in the inning as Charles Town/Ranson batted around.
When the score went to 11-1 in the fifth the game was ended on the mercy rule.
A long bus ride to the Southeastern Regional, which is slated to begin on August 3 in Vero Beach, Florida, awaits the Charles Town/Ranson team.
Senior League state champions from Florida, Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia will also be competing in the Southeastern Region.

The three adult coaches are Dino Carson, Buddy MacIntosh, and Mitch Viands.
