AARP meeting: The Jefferson County Chapter #799 of AARP will meet on Thursday at 11 a.m. in the social hall of the Asbury United Methodist Church on North Street in Charles Town. This will be the annual Potluck Picnic meeting so members are asked to bring main dishes, salads, and desserts suitable for a picnic. Instead of a speaker and program, the members will participate in bingo, so they are requested to bring suitable small items for bingo prizes. Rude Mechanicals to present ‘The Trojan Women’: Shepherd University’s Rude Mechanicals Medieval and Renaissance Players will present the Greek tragedy Euripides’ “The Trojan Women” on Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday at 2:30 p.m. in Reynolds Hall. Fire Department carnival: The Shepherdstown Fire Dept. will be having their annual carnival Monday through July 21. The carnival grounds are located behind the fire department in Shepherdstown.
EPBA meeting: The monthly meeting of the Eastern Panhandle Conservation District will be held on July 18 at 7 p.m. in the conference room of the USDA Service Center, 151 Aikens Center, Martinsburg. Agenda will be posted at the office.
Tire collection event: The Berkeley County Solid Waste Authority is pleased to announce the 2012 used tire collection events for Berkeley County. The tire collection events will be held on July 20 and July 21. Each event will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the South Berkeley Recycling Center, 637 Pilgrim Street in Inwood. This event is open to any West Virginia resident with a valid driver’s license. Participant may dispose of up to 10 tires, free of charge, per valid license. The tires do not need to be removed from the rims. SBRC and WV- DEP staff reserve the right to reject any tire not considered acceptable. Children’s asthma camp: Camp Catch Your Breath will hold a week-long camp July 22 to 27 for children ages 8 to 13 who suffer from asthma. The camp will be held at Jackson’s Mill 4-H Camp. Delaware shore birding trip: The Potomac Valley Audubon Society is sponsoring a birding trip along the Delaware shore Aug. 3 through 5. Anyone with an interest is welcome to participate, including children. There is no fee but participants will have to cover their own travel expenses and make their own room reservations. Participants should plan to wear comfortable walking or hiking boots; bring along bug spray to ward off ticks, mosquitoes and gnats; and bring water and, as necessary, a hat, sunscreen or rain gear.
