VanVliet, Watson, Thomas spark Cougar girls

SHENANDOAH JUNCTION— It was Hedgesville’s season-opening match and the Lady Eagles were able to register a 6-1 win over homestanding Jefferson.

The Hedgesville singles players with wins were Margaret Bock (No. 1), Anna Bock (No. 3), and Alexa Cincinnati (No. 4). Winning the doubles matches for Hedgesville were Margaret Bock/Aishu Salvja (No. 1), Anna Bock/Cincinnati (No. 2), and Anna Gilpin/Angela Campanella (No. 3) all posted wins.

The lone singles win by the Lady Cougars came from Maggie VanVliet at No. 2 singles.

On March 21, homestanding Clarke County dealt Jefferson a 5-4 loss in a match played in Berryville.

Winning for the Lady Cugars were India Watson (No. 1) with a 10-8 victory, VanVliet (No. 2) with a 10-6 win, the No. 1 doubles team of Watson/VanVliet with a 10-4 victory, and the No. 2 doubles duo of Stanton/Lindsay with a 10-5 victory.

With wins in singles matches from Maggie VanVliet, Shelby Stanton, and Lauren Thomas, Jefferson was off on a road that led it to a 6-1 girl’s tennis win over Musselman.

Jefferson posted wins in all three doubles matches when VaVliet/Stanton, Bailey Johnson/Amy Schattel, and Thomas/Susanne Lindsay teamed together to win their matches.

Madeline Flanagan was Musselman’s lone singles winner.
