Marshall prof honored with national teaching award

HUNTINGTON (AP) — An assistant professor at Marshall University’s medical school is being honored with a national teaching award.

The Huntington school says Dr. Kelly Melvin has been selected to receive an Association for Academic Psychiatry Early Career Development Award.

Melvin works in the department of psychiatry and behavioral medicine and is a 2005 graduate of Marshall University’s Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine and joined the school in November 2012.

The Association for Academic Psychiatry says the award was “created to facilitate career development and recognize young faculty who are innovative in their teaching techniques and skills.”

Melvin will receive the award at a meeting in September in Oregon.
