Berkeley County scraps quarterly town hall meetings

MARTINSBURG (AP) — The Berkeley County Council is ending its town hall meetings due to poor community attendance.

The Journal reports council members decided Thursday to end the quarterly meetings. The meetings had been suspended over the summer.

Council president Doug Copenhaver says few people had shown up for the meetings over the past two years. He called the town hall meetings a waste of time.

The meetings had been set up to listen to residents’ concerns. The meetings were moved to a new location within the county every quarter.

In place of town hall meetings, council members want to set up a quarterly meeting with local governments.
