West Virginia’s largest Kentucky Coffee tree identified

MARTINSBURG (AP) — A farm in Berkeley County is home to West Virginia’s largest Kentucky Coffee tree.

Division of Forestry forester Herb Petticord says the tree at Cambellton Farm is 81 feet tall and 178 inches in circumference. Its crown spread is 17 feet.

Petticord tells The Journal that the three numbers combined give the tree a total point value of 276. He says the point system is a nationwide data standard used to measure trees.

The farm is owned by Michael and Kristi Frye. Petticord discovered the tree while inspecting two Yellow Poplar trees reported by Michael Frye’s aunt for last year’s Big Tree contest.
