West Virginia students attending summer science institute

HUNTINGTON (AP) — About 112 high school students from southern West Virginia are participating in the annual Health Sciences and Technology Academy Summer Institute at Marshall University.

Officials say the institute conducted in collaboration with West Virginia University will take place July 13-18 on Marshall University’s Huntington campus.

It is the 10th year for the program that enables students to learn more about science and the opportunities that are available to students majoring in science.

Institute officials say the statewide initiative’s goal is to increase the number of underrepresented and minority students who complete a postsecondary education in the health professions and remain in West Virginia as primary caregivers.
