Though I did not participate in this past weekend’s race, I have participated in MANY other criterium races. Thankfully, the crits I raced where in California and in communities that are more forward thinking and accommodating to fit visitors who would otherwise NEVER visit a community like Charles Town, West Virginia. West Virginia is one of, if not THE, fatest states in this nation. Heaven forfend hosting an event that might inconvenience people in their cars for a few hours so that people (to include impressionable youth) can witness a GREAT event. Heck… maybe the racers and everyone who DID support the event might get motivated to get out and ride. And what about the positive impact to businesses who got to FEED hungry racers? I’m guessing Dairy Queen did a much better business this past Saturday than it typically does. Way to support athletics, Ms Smith:-\

    • Obviously commentor “Holly” has no clue what Charles Town, WV is about. It is always easy for the uninformed to make disparaging remarks from a distance. There is no way she can comment on how much money the 35 spectators spent in all of the Charles Town businesses. The closed streets which kept the locals away and of course the profits the DQ made as she mentioned. You know, the DQ that all those spectators visited and spent all that money. The one that burned down over a month ago and is nothing but a vacant lot. How many ice creams did all those bikers buy there Holly? The town was dup’d by a fast talking promoter who promised over 1000 spectators. We counted 35. The race promoter stated they had 161 racers. They counted how many bikes were in each race to acheive that number. The were MANY racers counted multiple times to aquire that number. Face it Holly, your event was a bust. Nobody showed up to race or watch but you wouldn’t know because you were standing at the vacant DQ lot waiting for your cone. Thanks for coming. More thanks for leaving.
