‘Nature’ exhibition | Through July 29
The inventive work of sculptor Gil Narro Garcia can be seen this month at the Fire Hall Gallery at 108 N. George St. in Charles Town.
“Interpreting Nature” will be on display through July 29 during the gallery’s regular hours from noon to 5 p.m. Wednesdays through Sundays. Admission is free. For details, go to washingtonstreetartistcooperative.org.

A musical version of L. Frank Baum’s classic “The Wizard of Oz” comes to Charles Town’s Old Opera House starting Thursday night. Theater fest | Through Aug. 3
See the latest plays as the Contemporary American Theater Festival continues on the campus of Shepherd University through next weekend. The lineup includes five new plays in rotating repertory along with stage readings, a lecture series, workshops, classes, art exhibitions, an art show and more.

Summertime Art Soiree | Aug. 1 and 2
It’s almost time for the Old Opera House’s eighth-annual Old Opera House Summertime Art Soiree. Next week’s event begins with a Friday night gala featuring hors d’oeuvres, wine and blues roots musician Daryl Jr. Cline. (Learn more about him at jrcline.com.)
At the center of the fundraiser at the historic theater at 204 N. George St. in Charles Town is the showcase of local artists’ work. The lineup of talented locals includes S.J. Brown (wildlife photography), Ed Cimaglio (decorative gourds with acrylic painting, staining, carving and pyrography), Kat Cimaglio (acrylic paintings and needle-felt work), Diana Cooper (wildlife and scenic photography), Ellen Hardesty (photography), Anna Howard (one-of-a-kind clocks), Pat Magnone (jewelry), Steve McDonald (woodwork and bass-guitar maker), Earl Mills (photography), Denise O’Brien (glass work), Bruce Olson (personal photography), Robin Tatina (watercolor landscapes) and Scott Tatina (wood turnings).
