Man fatally shot by police in West Virginia bar

HUNTINGTON (AP) — Huntington police have fatally shot an armed man during an argument at a city bar.

Huntington police Capt. John Ellis identified the gunman as 37-year-old Robert Henderson. Ellis says Henderson was a native of the Detroit area.

Media outlets report police were summoned to the El Ranchito Mexican Bar and Grill early Saturday.

Interim Police Chief Jim Johnson says officers witnessed several people arguing, including Henderson, who had a gun. Officers repeatedly ordered Henderson to keep his arms up and not to move.

Ellis says Henderson didn’t comply and made a gesture that an officer felt was threatening. The officer then shot Henderson, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

More than a dozen people were in the bar at the time.

The FBI is assisting in the investigation.
