Gee, Ferrer lead Jefferson Park Dolphins

Local boys swimming team finishes second at All-Star meet; girls third

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. – Shawn Gee picked up this summer where he left off last winter – leaving opponents in his wake.

Gee won three events Saturday during the Interstate Swim League All-Star Championships at the YMCA in Chambersburg, Pa., helping the local Jefferson Park Dolphins summer swim team to an overall third-place finish among 10 represented programs.

The 18-year-old rising freshman Fairmont State University swimmer won the 50-meter freestyle (26.12), 50-meter backstroke (29.57) and 100-meter individual medley (1:03.37) to help lead the boys team to a second-place finish behind overall winner Frederick.

In February, Gee, who had racked up both conference and regional titles, placed third in the 100 butterfly and sixth in the 50 freestyle as Washington placed ninth overall during the Class AAA state high school swimming championships at West Virginia University.

On Saturday, the Jefferson Park girls’ squad, led by victories from 12-year-old Megan Ferrer in the 100 freestyle (1:12.92) and 7-year-old Taelyn Wilt in the 25 backstroke (27.44), placed third behind Frederick and Hagerstown.

The divisions are separated into boys and girls brackets, including 8 and under, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14 and 15-18.

Frederick won the overall meet, followed by Hagerstown, Jefferson Park, Mercersburg, Waynesboro, Chambersburg, Seahorse Swim, Martinsburg, Moss Spring and Northwood.

On the boys’ side, Jefferson Park also collected victories by 17-year-old Bryan Wiercioch in the 100 freestyle (1:00.35) and 14-year-old Nick Wiercioch in the 50 breaststroke (40.06).

On the girls’ side, Ferrer also finished second in the 50 freestyle (33.06) and third in the 50 butterfly (36.48).
