Kallan Welsh’s new business offers computer repair, much more
CHARLES TOWN – Though Welsh Systems has been open less than a month, owner Kallan Welsh is already seeing repeat customers.
It’s clear that the area needed a reliable, affordable computer repair shop, the 18-year-old explains.
Welsh’s business offers not only computer repairs, but equipment for sale – everything from Wi-Fi adaptors, cables, keyboards, screen-cleaning kits, software, monitors, refurbished computers and office supplies – web design, security system installation, recycled electronics, and onsite and remote computer maintenance.
For years, Welsh said, he’s been repairing desktops, laptops, tablets and phones for friends, family and customers who heard about him through word-of-mouth.
He studied technology at Jefferson High School and gained a Computer Technology Industry Association “A+” certification through extra classes.
The nonprofit trade organization calls CompTIA “the leading provider of vendor-neutral information technologies certifications in the world.”
Starting a business took a certain amount of drive, Welsh said. “The rules do not apply,” he said. “They told me, ‘You can’t start a business – you are only 18,’ but I did it anyway.”
Networking and fixing hardware issues are a favorite of the hands-on Welsh, who said he enjoys a mix of tasks and clients.
In addition to working with individuals with computer needs, Welsh also is hoping to land more business jobs.
To bring attention to his business, he plans to hold a drawing for a Nexus 7 tablet later this summer. Starting Thursday, anyone can pick up a free ticket simply by stopping in to Welsh Systems.
