Bicyclists to honor fallen riders in West Virginia ride

CHARLESTON (AP) — Bicycle riders will honor fallen bikers during the annual “Ride of Silence” in Charleston.

The ride Wednesday will start at the Capitol and continue down Kanawha Boulevard before returning to the Capitol. Anyone can join the memorial ride and offer a few words of remembrance.

During the ride, communication will be by hand signals only.

Sponsors released statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration on bike deaths. Those numbers show seven bike deaths in West Virginia over the past six years. Nationally, the total number of deaths topped 4,000.
