13-year-old drowns in lake in Jackson County

RIPLEY (AP) — Police say a 13-year-old boy has drowned in a lake in Jackson County.

Sheriff Tony Boggs tells media outlets that the accident occurred Sunday afternoon on the grounds of the Parchment Valley West Virginia Baptist Conference Center near Ripley.

Boggs says the boy and another boy were in a kayak that capsized. The other boy was able to swim to shore.

The sheriff says the boy was with a church group visiting the center. His name hasn’t been released.
