Ex-Berkeley deputy pleads guilty to wreck charges

MARTINSBURG (AP) — A former Berkeley County deputy has pleaded guilty to charges stemming from a wreck in 2013.

Media outlets report that 31-year-old Patrick D. Ware of Hedgesville pleaded guilty Monday to driving under the influence causing bodily injury and providing false information to police.

Ware is scheduled to be sentenced June 16 in Berkeley County Circuit Court.

Berkeley County prosecutor Pamela Games-Neely said Ware was off-duty when his vehicle collided with another vehicle on May 1, 2013. He told a state police trooper that his then-girlfriend was driving.

Ware admitted during the plea hearing that he was driving when the wreck occurred.

Ware resigned from the sheriff’s department after he was indicted.
