Holy Week services: St. John Lutheran Church in Harpers Ferry will hold a 7 p.m. Maundy Thursday service at the church at 950 Washington St.A Good Friday service begins at 7 p.m. with a cross processional to Bolivar United Methodist Church following the service.

The church’s Eastern sunrise service begins at 6:30 a.m. at Harper Cemetery on Filmore Street in Harpers Ferry. For more information, email info@stjohnlutheranwv.org.

 

Easter music: The Summit Point Baptist Church stages an Easter musical worship program at 7 p.m. on Good Friday. The adult choir will present “Jesus: Messiah,” a program of hymns, gospel songs and favorite contemporary Christian titles with narration and pianist Shelly Clegg. Holy Week services: New Street United Methodist Church at 202 W. New St. in Shepherdstown marks Maundy Thursday with a light supper at 6 p.m. followed by the cantata, “In My Place” and communion at 7 p.m. Easter Sunday begins with a “Sunrise” service at 6:30 a.m. followed by breakfast and a traditional Easter service at 10 a.m. For details, call the church at 304-876-2362.

 

Easter breakfast: The Middleway Volunteer Fire Co. No. 6 will host an Easter breakfast Saturday with an Easter egg hunt to follow. Breakfast will be served from 8 to 10 a.m. and will include all-you-can-eat pancakes, homemade sausage gravy, eggs, sausage patties or ham, home fries, fruit, coffee, iced tea and orange juice.

Carryout meals will be available. The meal costs $8 for adults or $6 for kids and any child eating breakfast will get a free pass to the Easter egg hunt. Others may take part in the egg hunt for $4.

Special offerings: Ebenezer United Methodist Church at 11590 Harpers Ferry Road in Purcellville, Va., holds a Maundy Thursday service at 7 p.m., a Tenebrae service at 7 p.m. Friday and on Saturday, a free Easter Extravaganza from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with egg hunts, games, crafts and more. Good Friday walk: The South Jefferson Ministerial Association hosts a “Walk of Witness” at 10 a.m. on the front steps of Asbury United Methodist Church at 110 W. North St. in Charles Town.

The walk involves Christians carrying a cross to six stations for a selection of Bible readings, prayers and hymns before concluding at Edge Hill Cemetery to symbolize Jesus’ burial in the tomb. Learn more by calling 304-725-5513 or going online to myasburychurch.org.

 

Special for Easter: Grace Reformed United Church of Christ in Kearneysville will hold a special Easter “sonrise” service at 6:15 a.m. with guest pastor Clyde Eggleton of St. Paul Baptist Church of Kearneysville and music from St. Paul’s praise team.

A community breakfast with pancakes, sausage, eggs, coffee and juice is offered at 7 p.m. with the morning worship service with Grace Church Pastor David G. Beeson beginning at 9 a.m. The service at the church at 421 Kearneysville Pike will include communion. For more information, call 304-876-6828.

 

Easter Parade: Shepherdstown’s annual Easter parade begins at 11 a.m. Saturday at the intersection of Church and German streets. Organizers will award prizes for the parade’s best-dressed dogs, children, family and more. Find details at Shepherdstownvisitorscenter.com.

 

Worship service: The House of Prayer-Church of God will host a Good Friday worship service on the last words of Christ at 7:30 p.m. Friday at 501 W. Congress Street. The service, which is sponsored by the Jefferson County Black Clergy Association will feature speakers from a number of churches. For information, call Pastor Paul E. Brown at 304-229-6447.

 

Holy Week services: Asbury United Methodist Church in Charles Town will mark Holy Week and Easter Sunday with special services including a Maundy Thursday service at 7 p.m., a special, six-hour Bible study at 7 p.m. Friday, a community Easter sunrise service at Jefferson Memorial Park followed by our traditional worship services at 8:30 and 11 a.m. and a contemporary Easter worship at 9:35 a.m. Asbury is located at 110 W.
