BETHANY (AP) — Former Pennsylvania governor and U.S. homeland security chief Tom Ridge will speak at Bethany College’s spring commencement.
The Daily Times reports that the ceremony is set for May 17.
Ridge was governor from 1995 to 2001. After the 9-11 terrorist attacks, he became the first assistant to the president for homeland security. In 2003 he became the first secretary of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
The Erie, Pa., native also served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1983 to 1995. He’s now CEO of a security consulting firm.
Bethany President Scott Miller says Ridge’s accomplishments serve as “a shining example of what is possible.”
