Deadline approaching for West Virginia farm lease program

CHARLESTON (AP) — A deadline is creeping up for growers interested in leasing prime farmland on West Virginia Department of Agriculture property at the Lakin State Farm in Mason County.

Forty acres are available this year to individuals, groups and co-ops for commercial vegetable and small fruit production.

Agriculture Commission Walt Helmick says there’s no cost to apply, but applicants must include a business plan.

The deadline for applying is March 14.
