CHARLESTON (AP) — The National Weather Service says January was the coldest on average in West Virginia in 36 years.
The weather service said Friday that the average temperature during the month statewide was 24 degrees. That’s about 7 degrees colder than normal for the month.
It was the coldest January since 1978 and the seventh coldest since records were kept over the past 120 years.
The coldest January on record in West Virginia occurred in 1977.
