MORGANTOWN (AP) — Florence Lombardi Merow, a former state Delegate and former Morgantown mayor, has died. She was 91.
Hastings Funeral Home in Morgantown says Merow died Saturday at her home.
She also was a former Morgantown City Council member and a Monongalia County commissioner.
Former City Council member Frank Scafella tells The Dominion Post that Merow was ahead of her time in many ways.
Scafella says Merow knew the Monongahela River was a valuable asset in the 1980s but few shared her vision. He says a riverfront design that she presented then is strikingly similar to today’s riverfront.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete.
