Cabell judge’s retirement leaves vacancy on bench

HUNTINGTON (AP) — Cabell County Circuit Court Judge David Pancake’s retirement has left a vacancy on the bench.

Pancake notified Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin in late September that he was retiring, effective Jan. 31. Tomblin has not yet appointed a replacement.

Cabell County Chief Circuit Judge Paul T. Farrell tells The Herald-Dispatch that he will preside over Pancake’s docket this week.

Farrell and state Supreme Court spokeswoman Jennifer Bundy say they expect Chief Justice Robin Davis will name a senior status judge as a temporary replacement. Bundy says that person would serve until Tomblin appoints Pancake’s successor.
