W.Va. chemical spill alters sports schedule

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) — A chemical spill that has contaminated the water supply in nine West Virginia counties is disrupting every aspect of life, including sports.

Men’s and women’s basketball games scheduled Friday and Saturday at West Virginia State University’s Institute campus have been changed to away games, while the University of Charleston’s men’s and women’s basketball game scheduled for home Monday are now away.

West Virginia State University is serving as an emergency water distribution site.

Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin has ordered customers of West Virginia American Water residents in the nine counties to not use their tap water for drinking, bathing, cooking or laundry.
