Washington 86, Tuscarora 49
CHARLES TOWN (Jan. 20) – Dominique Newman scored 21 points and Kendall Smith added 10 points and eight rebounds as top-ranked Washington remained undefeated with an 86-49 victory over visiting Tuscarora in nonconference action.
The 10-0 Patriots, ranked No. 1 in state in Class AAA, also collected 16 points from Keldon Bell, 10 points from Jerome Jones and nine points and eight rebounds from Josh Dudley.
Ryan French contributed seven points off the bench.
Washington led 46-23 at intermission and connected on 13-of-17 free throws.
Jefferson 66, Eastern 65
WASHINGTON (Jan. 20) – Jalen Smith scored 29 points and Jahlil Jenkins added 18 as Jefferson won its second consecutive road game with a 66-65 victory over Eastern in nonconference action.
The Cougars (7-4) also collected seven points and eight rebounds from Andrew King, while Christian Johnson netted five and Jalon Smith scored three.
Among Jalen Smith’s offensive contribution were four, 3-pointers and a team-best 5-of-6 from the foul line.
Jefferson 74, Park View 47
STERLING, Va. (Jan. 18) – Freshman guard Jahlil Jenkins scored 22 points and junior Jalen Smith added 15 as visiting Jefferson topped Park View, 74-47, in nonconference action.
Andrew King also netted 12 points for the Cougars (6-4), while Michael Tennant scored seven and Brandon Grafton, Christian Johnson and Mario Gonzalez added four points apiece.
Delonte Berry led Jefferson with seven rebounds.
Washington 77, Hedgesville 62
HEDGESVILLE (Jan. 17) – Keldon Bell scored a team-high 20 points and Dominique Newman added 17 as Washington remained undefeated with a 77-62 road victory over conference rival Hedgesville.
The Patriots (9-0) also collected 13 points from Jerome Jones and nine points from Kendall Smith, who was playing his first game since being sidelined earlier this season with an ankle injury.
Josh Dudley netted eight points for Washington, which held a 39-37 advantage at halftime. Maleke Jones added seven points for the Patriots.
Musselman 72, Jefferson 52
INWOOD (Jan. 17) – Jahlil Jenkins led Jefferson with 17 points and Jalen Smith added 16, but the Cougars lost momentum in the waning moments and were defeated by undefeated Musselman, 72-52, on the road in conference action.
Andrew King added eight points for the visiting Cougars (5-4), who trailed 28-27 at halftime.
Michael Tennant netted six points for Jefferson, while Mario Gonzalez and Brandon Grafton added two points apiece.
Jefferson 60, Park View 48
STERLING, Va. (Jan. 18) – Kirsten Doleman scored a team-high 13 points as visiting Jefferson avenged a seven-point home loss last month to Park View by earning a 60-48 road victory over the Lady Patriots in nonconference action.
Marissa Jones added 12 points for the Lady Cougars (6-5), who were defeated 51-44 by Park View on Dec. 16 in Shenandoah Junction.
Alanna Baylor and Selena Renteria netted 10 points apiece for visiting Jefferson, which earned its second consecutive victory.
Jefferson 67, Musselman 59
SHENANDOAH JUNCTION (Jan. 16) – Marissa Jones scored 21 points and nabbed seven rebounds as Jefferson overcame a slight halftime deficit and topped visiting Musselman, 67-59, in conference action.
The Lady Cougars (5-5) also collected 15 points from Tori Banjoman and 14 points from Kirsten Doleman as Jefferson outscored Musselman by eights points in the fourth quarter.
Selena Renteria added eight points and six rebounds for the Lady Cougars, while teammate Alanna Baylor netted seven points and had five steals.
Washington 67, Hedgesville 36
CHARLES TOWN (Jan. 16) – Morgan Adams scored 22 points and Kiley Nelson added 18 as Washington earned its third victory of the season with an overwhelming 67-36 victory over visiting conference rival Hedgesville.
Destiny Cogle added 10 points for the Lady Patriots (3-6), while teammates Jackie Hess netted seven and Tyra Payton scored six.
Nelson led Washington with 11 rebounds and Morgan tallied team-bests with six steals and six assists.
The Lady Patriots led 28-19 at intermission.
SHEPHERDSTOWN (Jan. 18) – Destiny Hoffman and Bryan Wiercioch led their respective Jefferson swimming programs with victories in the 500 freestyle as the Cougars swept Hampshire and Martinsburg in a three-way meet.
Jefferson’s boys program remained unbeaten on the season at 9-0 in duals action, while the girls improved to 8-1.
The girls program also collected victories from Kayley Hoffman in the 200 free and 100 fly. – Staff Reports
