Boys basketball

Washington 88, Sherando 56

CHARLES TOWN (Jan. 11) – Dominique Newman scored 31 points and Jerome Jones 16 points and 12 rebounds as No. 1-ranked Washington downed visiting Sherando, 88-56 in nonconference action.

The Patriots (8-0) also received 11 points and 11 rebounds from Keldon Bell, while Josh Dudley added seven points, 15 rebounds and 10 assists.

Maleke Jones scored 13 points for Washington.


Girls basketball

Washington 45, Musselman 39

INWOOD (Jan. 9) – Morgan Adams scored a game-high 31 points as Washington topped conference rival Musselman, 45-39, the Lady Patriots second victory of the season.

Washington (2-5) led 24-19 at halftime and Jackie Hess added five points for the Lady Patriots.


Spring Mills 49, Jefferson 42

SPRING MILLS (Jan. 9) – Tori Banjoman scored a team-high 14 points, but the visiting Jefferson Cougars couldn’t overcome a 5-point halftime deficit and dropped a road conference game 49-42 at Spring Mills.

SHEPHERDSTOWN (Jan. 11) – Shawn Gee won the 100 freestyle and 100 backstroke and Mikaela Payne won the 100 and 200 freestyles as the Washington boys and girls swimming programs swept a three-way meet against Martinsburg and Spring Mills.

The Patriots, whose programs both improved to 9-0 in dual meets, also collected individual victories from Derek Carson in the 200 individual medley and 100 breaststroke, and Daniel Carson in the 200 and 500 freestyles. For the girls, Cameron Payne added a victory in the 100 backstroke and Kay Feldstein won the 500 freestyle. Also, Jill Goben won the 200 individual medley and Celina Miedtank took first in the 100 breaststroke. – Staff Reports
