Linda Raco of Charles Town (left) stands with singer Landau Eugene Murphy Jr. last week as the “America’s Got Talent” winner performed Christmas favorites at the Star Theatre in Berkeley Springs. Murphy, a native of southern West Virginia who was working at a car wash before hitting it big on the NBC show, performed in the Eastern Panhandle for the first time Dec. 11. “The concert was fabulous,” Raco said. “We really enjoyed the entire night. What a humble spiritual and entertaining person Landau is, and very, very proud of West Virginia and his roots.” Raco won two tickets to Murphy’s Classic Christmas Crooners Tour and his new CD, “Christmas Made for Two,” through a Spirit contest. Murphy’s December has been a whirlwind: He performed for the first time in China the weekend before his Berkeley Springs concert and has back-to-back shows this week in southern West Virginia and Kentucky.
