Sherando wins swim meets, Jefferson second in both

SHEPHERDSTOWN — Sherando won both the boys and girls divisions of the eight-school swimming invitational held at the Shepherd Wellness Center.

The Warriors had a meet-winning 178 points in the boys division. Runner-up Jefferson had 136 points and third-place Washington totaled 69 points. The remaining order of finish had Hampshire, Musselman, Hedgesville, Spring Mills and Martinsburg.

In the girls division, it was Sherando with 188 points. Jefferson was second with 83 points, Musselman was third with 78 points and Washington fourth with 71 points. The last four teams in order were Hedgesville, Spring Mills, Martinsburg and Hampshire.

Washington’s Shawn Gee scored 18 points in the boys division while Jefferson’s Bailey Pitcher totated 16 points. Washington’s Derek Carson also placed well enough in his events to score 16 points.

Jefferson’s Nick Mazaleski had 15 points and the Cougars’ Weston Goddell added nine points to the Jefferson team score. Lady Cougars’ freshman Kaelyn Gardner scored 18 points and had two wins in individual races. Destiny Hoffman had an individual race win for Jefferson.

Washington had Cameron Payne win the 100 backstroke (and was named to the all-invitational team) and the Patriots’ Mikaela Payne and Jill Goben were selected to the all-invitational team.
