Cold weather didn’t dampen the Christmas cheer of the crowds who turned out for both Charles Town/Ranson and Shepherdstown’s annual Christmas parades over the weekend. Spectators for Charles Town and Ranson’s 69th annual Christmas parade were treated to floats, marching bands and presentations by many area groups as part of this year’s “Military Christmas” theme. In Shepherdstown, parade-goers along German Street enjoyed a walking nativity and a visit from Santa Claus, as well as a free showing of “The Polar Express” at the Opera House. Meanwhile, Harpers Ferry continued its annual Old Tyme Christmas celebration with horse and wagon rides, balloon sculptures by Elf Susie and a living nativity at St. Peter’s church. Some even saw Mr. and Mrs. Claus strolling about High and Potomac streets.
