BERKELEY SPRINGS — The Max Horz wrestling tournament at Berkeley Springs High was a fast-paced event that was condensed from two days into one night.
Because of the threatening weather forecast for last Saturday, all the matches were held on Friday night.
Wrestlers could only wrestle five times in one day/night, so some of the fifth and sixth places had to be shared because the athletes had already been in their allotted number of matches.
Jefferson finished 11th out of the 14 teams entered. The Cougars had 92 points. Sherando (Va.) was the team champion with 208 points followed by runner-up Myersdale (Pa.) with 193. DeMatha (Md.) was third with 188.5 points.
Jefferson’s best finishes came from Dante’ McCarroll and A.J. Pierson. McCarroll was third at 170 and Pierson was third at 182.
Sam Kosanovich was fifth at 120 Gunner Schrup was fifth at 285.
