‘America’s Got Talent’ fave to bring Christmas classics to Panhandle
BERKELEY SPRINGS – Landau Eugene Murphy Jr., the kind-hearted, smooth-voiced West Virginian who won season six of NBC ’s “America’s Got Talent” makes his first appearance in the Eastern Panhandle next week.
Murphy’s “Classic Christmas Crooners Tour” comes to the Star Theatre in Berkeley Springs on Dec. 11.
The 8 p.m. show also will feature his Classic Christmas Big Band and onetime vocalists from The Temptations, The Drifters and The Platters.
Want even more Murphy? Ticket-holders who partner with the singer to help Morgan County Backpacks, the nonprofit program that aids hungry children, can take part in a pre-concert “meet and greet.”
Concert-goers who bring in items from the Backpack program’s desired donation list (money, jarred peanut butter, canned pasta meals and soups) will have the chance to meet the performers, get autographs and pose for pictures starting at 6 p.m. at the Morgan Arts Council’s Icehouse TreeFest.
Says Murphy’s manager Burke Allen (like Murphy, a Logan native): “We’re proud to do our part to help kids this Christmas in the Panhandle, and look forward to meeting all the folks from that part of the state.”
For those who can’t get to the show but love Murphy’s music, his new CD, “Christmas Made for Two,” is for sale online. It offers up fresh, jazzy spins on “White Christmas,” “Santa Claus Is Coming To Town,” “The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Fire),” “I’ll Be Home For Christmas” and other Christmas classics.
A portion of proceeds from the concert and the CD goes to the West Virginia-based nonprofit, The Children’s Home Society.
