SHENANDOAH JUNCTION — Jefferson jumped out to a 20-point halftime lead against winless Berkeley Springs. The Lady Cougars continued to outpace the Lady Indians in the second half and finished off a 73-41 win.
Marissa Jones scored 17 points and Kirsten Doleman totaled 15 points.
The Lady Cougars were 2-0 after opening with wins over St. James (Md.) and the Lady Indians.
Berkeley Springs was led by Sarah Haynes and her 17 points. It was Berkeley Springs’ fourth consecutive loss.
Jefferson pressured the Lady Indians from the outset, the same as it vhad done against St. James. An 11-0 lead gave Jefferson its start. And the lead was 17-5 after one quarter. It was 42-22 at the half. The count was 62-29 after three quarters.
Berkeley Springs scored just 19 points in a mostly barren second half.
Jefferson had 10 players in the scoring column, including eight points from Alanna Baylor, Tori Banjoman and Kenzie Christman. Selena Renteria scored seven points.
Jefferson suffered its first loss of the season on Monday
when visiting Park View (Va.) dealt the Lady Cougars a 49-44 defeat.
Turnovers and missed free throws late in the game hurt Jefferson. The Lady Cougars had an early lead but couldn’t build on it because of the flow of turnovers that came with regularity.
Park View fell behind because it also had turnover problems.
Jefferson’s lead was 26-21 at the half.
But the Lady Cougars only managed three points in the third quarter and when Park View took the lead it never gave it back.
Jefferson was 6-for-13 from the foul line in the last quarter.
The Lady Cougars were 2-1 overall and Park View was 3-0.
