ONA — With Conor Riley leading the way with a second-place finish in the individual standings, it was University High winning the Class AAA boys team championship at Saturday’s cross country state meet in Ona.
The Hawks (64 points) outpaced second-place Cabell Midland (77 points). Morgantown with 141 points was third and Jefferson with 146 points was fourth.
Matthew Brafford (George Washington) was the individual winner with his time of 15:39.53. Riley was about 26 seconds behind Brafford’s winning time with his 16:05.11.
Jefferson’s Andrew Milliron finished third in the individual standings with his time of 16:11.46.
The Cougars’ Jackson Jacobs (16:35.97) was 15th overall. From Jacobs’ finish, there was a long dropoff to Rhett Zillinger, who was 40th overall in 17:29.05. Dylan Stamper was 50th overall in 17:47.57. Delmar Hagedorn was the last individual Cougar to count in the team point total and he was 53th overall in 17:50.17.
Jefferson’s other two competitors in its seven-runner contingent were 73th-place Colin Hayes (18:30.20) and 80th-place Jonathon Royster (18:44.44).
