Stay fit: Today’s the final opportunity to sign up for Maintain Don’t Gain, the free holiday weight-maintenance program offered by Jefferson County Health Department and other sponsors.

Anyone can go to the health department or another of the participating cites and get a Maintain packet with fitness and exercise tips and passes to work out at area gyms.

Other weigh-in sites: the Clarion Health Spa & Fitness Center in Shepherdstown, Curves in Charles Town, the Eastern Panhandle Free Clinic, Gold’s Gym, Harpers Ferry Family Medicine, Jefferson County Community Center at Sam Michaels Park and the Shepherd University Wellness Center.

Fun run: Asbury United Methodist Church’s Gobbler Hobbler 5K begins at 8 a.m. Thursday on the bike path at the intersection of W.Va. 9 and Currie Road in Ranson with a kids’ dash starting at 9 a.m.

There is no registration fee, but a donation box will be set up for Meals On Wheels of Jefferson County. Anyone may register at or at the starting line the day of the run beginning at 7 a.m. For details, call 304-725-5513 or email Megan Derrick at



Farm market: Shoppers can pick up local pasture-raised meats, eggs, milk, yogurt goat cheeses, jams, fresh-baked bread, pies, pastries and other goods at the Bolivar Heights Farmers Market on Washington Street near Harpers Ferry Middle School from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays through the winter.

FFA food orders: The deadline to place an order for beef jerky, cheesecakes or citrus fruit online with Wildwood Middle School’s FFA.
