CHARLESTON (AP) — Virginia and West Virginia are participating in a multi-state earthquake drill this week.
The second annual Great SouthEast ShakeOut is set for Thursday at 10:17 a.m.
The West Virginia Department of Military Affairs and Public Safety says the drill provides an opportunity to practice the recommended response to an earthquake. The basic drill is to drop, take cover and hold on.
In 2011, a magnitude-5.8 earthquake centered in Mineral, Va., was felt along the densely populated Eastern seaboard.
Other states participating in the drill are Delaware, Georgia, Maryland, North Carolina and South Carolina. The District of Columbia also is participating.
