Treason trials talk: Doug Estepp of Coal Country Tours will speak Monday at the Jefferson County Courthouse on the famed treason trials held at the site in 1922.
The 6 p.m. talk is free. Estepp says his presentation will include an overview of the Matewan shootings, the Battle of Blair Mountain and other events leading up to the trials and as well as a look at the trials themselves and their lasting impact on the nation.
Since 2010, Estepp has been offering multi-day trips to showcase the rich, often-overlooked history of the southern West Virginia coalfields. He recently began teaching classes on coal country through Shepherd University’s Lifelong Learning Program.
For details on the next six-week session, set to begin March 10, call Estepp at 540-233-0543 or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
