Breast cancer in the spotlight
The Berkeley County Council recently proclaimed October as National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and University Healthcare hospitals in Martinsburg and Ranson plan to offer discounted mammograms each Saturday this month. Standing with University Healthcare’s Teresa McCabe (third from left) are County Council President Tony Petrucci (from left), Councilmen Doug Copenhaver and James Barnhart, Barb Henry of the American Cancer Society and council members Elaine Mauck and Jim Whitacre. McCabe said that in an effort to focus on prevention, University Healthcare will offer discount mammogram clinics each Saturday in October at Berkeley Medical Center and Jefferson Medical Center. Women 35 and older can pay $60 for the mammogram screening and interpretation. McCabe said no physician’s order is required and payment must be made in cash or by credit card or check; no insurance will be accepted. In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, women getting the screening will take home a small gift.
