The wait is nearly over for the free, one-of-a-kind art event known as Artomatic@Jefferson, which makes its debut this week.

A by-invitation unveiling is set for Thursday evening and the public is invited to the event’s grand opening at 5 p.m. Friday.

Artomatic@Jefferson’s venue is the vast Rock & Tile Building at 154 Wolfcraft Way near the intersection of U.S. 340 and Marlow Road in Charles Town.

It’s the first time such an event has been staged in the Panhandle. Previously only three cities – all of them are much bigger than Charles Town – have hosted Artomatics: Frederick, Md., Cleveland and Washington.

The month-long extravaganza will include not only art displays but special entertainment, children’s art activities, film, poetry, plays and book readings, demonstrations, live music, theater, dance, workshops and seminars for artists and more.

Artomatic@Jefferson’s normal hours are 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Fridays, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturdays and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sundays.

The event will conclude with a Halloween party at 3 p.m. Oct. 31.
