Mothers Against Drunk Driving and the Governor’s Highway Safety Office hosted a breakfast earlier this month. Craig Blair. The annual breakfast at the Martinsburg Holiday Inn Sept. 7 honors local law enforcement officers for their efforts to eliminate impaired driving. Among the law enforcement officers recognized were Sgt. Jeremy Burkholder (fourth from left) of the Harpers Ferry Police Department with 13 DUI arrests; Officer Matthew Custer of the Ranson Police Department, with 22 DUI arrests; West Virginia State Police Morgan County Sr. Trooper Sam Smith with 16 DUI arrests; Morgan County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Dennis Jenkins with 34 DUI arrests; Martinsburg Police Department Patrolman James Everhart with 37 DUI arrests; and West Virginia State Police Jefferson County Cpl. Martin J. Glende with 94 DUI arrests. In 2012, more than 850 DUI arrests were made by officers in the three Panhandle counties. Other Jefferson law enforcement officers who received awards were Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department Cpl. Dustin Tabler with 45 DUI arrests and Charles Town Police Department Cpl. Jonathan Quinnam with 21 DUI arrests.
