CHARLES TOWN — Washington held off a stern challenge from Hedgesville, winning by seven strokes, in a golf match held last Thursday at the Locust Hill course.
The Patriots finished with a team score of 332 and the Eagles were the runner-up team with a 339. Jefferson was third in the seven-team field and was followed by Berkeley Springs, Musselman, Spring Mills and the incomplete Martinsburg team.
Owen Elliott (Hedgesville) was the low medalist with a round of 77. Washington’s Hunter Hardy was one stroke back with a 78. The Patriots’ Dylan Mumaw (83) was fourth, and Washington’s Ryan Fleming (83) was fifth.
In an earlier match, the Patriots defeated Jefferson, Musselman and Martinsburg in a quad played at the Sleepy Hollow Course.
Jefferson’s Patrick Glenn and Musselman’s Adam Hull both carded rounds of 83 to tie for low medalist.
Washington’s Ryan Fleming fired an 84 and Dylan Mumaw finished his round at 87. Jacob Shuff (91) and Hunter Hardy (91) were next for the match-winning Patriots. The Patriots’ Patrick Burgess carded a 92 and Tyler Sigler had a 93.
The Patriots had a winning team score of 354. Musselman followed with a 399 and Jefferson was at 404. The Bulldogs had an incomplete team.
