Milliron, Jacobs finish 1-2 at Judges Classic

KERNSTOWN, Va. — Even though Andrew Milliron (16:01) and Jackson Jacobs (16:30) finished 1-2 in Saturday’s Judges Classic cross country meet staged at the Kernstown Battlefield, it was Battlefield (Va.) High winning the event when its five runners were third, fifth, sixth, seventh and 17th overall for a miniscule 38 points.

Virginia’s Millbrook (65 points) was second with Jefferson (77 points) finishing a distant third.

Jackson Jacobs finished second in the Judges Classic meet in Kernstown, Va., on Saturday. Jefferson’s Andrew Milliron was the boys division winner. Battlefield High won the boys division. In the girls division, Jefferson’s Abby Colbert was the individual champion. Emma Lindberg finished 12th overall. Battlefield High also won the girls division.

After Milliron and Jacobs, the third Cougar team member was 12th-place Rhett Zillinger. Freshman Colin Hayes was 30th and freshman Delmar Hagedorn was 32nd to complete Jefferson’s roll of its first five runners. Also competing for the Cougars were Jonathan Royster and Dylan Stamper.

In the girls division of the race, Jefferson once again had the individual winner but couldn’t find a third, fourth or fifth runner to finish high enough to keep Battlefield High from also winning there.

Jefferson sophomore Abby Colbert won the meet with a time of 19:21 to outdistance Battlefield’s Saige Cisler, a freshman who was the runner-up. Emma Thornberg, Georgia Matthews, Sophia Dorsey and Kyla Carte placed third, fourth, sixth and ninth overall for Battlefield High.

Jefferson’s Emma Lindberg was 12th, Malika Briggs was 28th, Nathalie Walker was 34th and Megan Cardiel was 43th overall as the other Lady Cougars whose finishes counted toward the team point total.
