Ashley Snow steps into the lead role of Elle Woods this week as “Legally Blonde: The Musical” debuts at Charles Town’s Old Opera House.
The musical comedy kicks off at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the historic theater at 204 N. George St. with seven more performances lined up before Sept. 15.
The work is based on a novel by Amanda Brown, a former Stanford Law student herself. In the 2001 film version, Reese Witherspoon took the starring role as the sorority girl who heads off to Harvard Law hoping to win back her beau and there comes to appreciate her true power.
David Porterfield directs the play, with Charles Johnson providing musical direction and Christine Galante handling choreography.
Portraying Elle’s ex-love Warner is Adam Blackstock while others taking on key roles include Alora Ray, Tony Marchese, Holly Legg and Irina Price.
“Legally Blonde: The Musical” also will take the stage starting at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday as well as at a 2:30 p.m. matinee on Sunday. Additional performances happen Sept. 12, 13, 14 and 15.
