INWOOD — After scoring only Kat Hussion’s goal in the first half, the Jefferson girls opened up in the last half with three more goals in a 4-1 soccer win over the Lady Applemen.
Hussion then gave Jefferson a 2-0 lead in the second half after getting an assist pass from Maddie Hinkle.
Musselman’s lone goal in the loss that left it with a 4-4-1 overall record came next and sliced the Jefferson lead in half at 2-1.
That Musselman goal was the only shot the Lady Applemen slipped past Jefferson goalkeeper, Shelbie Spencer. Spencer would be credited with 13 saves.
The Lady Cougars’ Hussion gave her team a hat trick when she deposited her third goal of the evening into the Musselman net. Jefferson’s lead went to 3-1.
In the game’s final minute, Jessica Shakespere eased her shot past the Hedgesville goalkeeper to finalize the scoring and leave the Lady Cougars with a 4-1 win.
Jefferson improved to 6-1-1 overall with the win.
The Lady Cougars and Hampshire played toa 1-1 tie in Romney. Maddie Maloney’s goal gave Jefferson a temporary 1-0 lead. The Trojans squared things at 1-1 on Emilynn Corbin’s second half goal. Hampshire had advantages in corner kicks and shots. Spencer was credited with 24 saves in the Jefferson goal.
