LUMBERTON, NC — The Summit Point 15U baseball team that had earned a berth in the Babe Ruth Southeast Regional by finishing second in the Virginia state tournament opened pool play with a 3-2 win over Lumber River (NC) last Thursday and followed that up on Friday with a 9-5 win over McKenzie (Tennessee).
Robert Cross pitched the first five innings in the 3-2 win and Austin Cross went the final two innings. Grant Reed had a two-run single.
Bradley Davis drove in two runs and pitched the first four innings and allowed two runs in the 9-5 win. Charlie Barnholt pitched the last three innings and yielded three runs. Dylan Mackey had an RBI.
On Sunday, Summit Point ran away from James Island (South Carolina), winning 23-2 to improve to 3-0 in pool play.
Timmy Joy pitched a comple game in getting the win.
In the Southeast Regional single-elimination semifinals on Sunday, Summit Point dropped a 2-1 game to Borderbelt (North Carolina). Davis pitched a complete game and yielded only three hits. The left-hander fanned 10 and allowed only three hits.
Jordan Beans’ RBI single plated Kaleeb Jones, who had doubled, with Summit Point’s only run.
